Do you find that sometimes your thoughts are migrating towards the negative side and you can’t seem to get out of a negative thought pattern?
Or maybe your brain is just cluttered and there is never ending chatter going on?
“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves”
~Buddha
There are various reasons as to why our mind may be in a negative state; from internal reasons (our health, diet, emotions, hormones, etc) to external influences (stress, environment, relationships, work etc) the list goes on.
Whatever the reasons may be, I am betting that like most people, your mind can feel busy and sometimes a little toxic. I don’t think people are meant to think happy thoughts 100% of the time, which is fine, but having some tools in your arsenal to shift negative thoughts towards happier thoughts along with tips to calm the mind is something valuable to have in your back pocket!
Thoughts become things and that negative energy is not good for our bodies or our health.
By detoxing your thoughts and mind regularly, you can bring awareness and clarity into your life and it can help you to know yourself better, move forward and achieve the goals/intentions that you set for yourself.
Here are some easy tips that you can use to detox your thoughts and mind this year and get on the road to happier thinking with less brain chatter!
Awareness:
Try to get to the heart of the matter of what may be causing a toxic mind. Could it be work stress, a relationship? Does something need to change in your life?
Can you become aware of your body and mind and see a connection to food? Do your thoughts feel more negative after you eat sugar? Do your thoughts become negative when you are hungry? (Ummm.. hangry!)
Or can you see a pattern with your hormones and your thought pattern? These are just some ideas to consider. Once we become more aware of our bodies and thoughts, we can start to make connections and find the potential root of the issue or a trigger.
Distract Negative Thoughts:
If your mind is leaning towards the negative or is full of busy chatter that just won’t slow down, consider doing something different in that moment and distract or move past those thoughts, which will help to shift them away from negative feelings towards the positive.
Try techniques such as meditation (even just 10 minutes), deep breathing, moving your body outside in nature (a walk!), yoga, dancing! etc.. Moving your body can help to quiet your mind and is a great way to detox the mind and change gears.
Purge the Mind:
Consider just writing everything out on paper. Anything and everything that is in your head, from negative thoughts to just random thoughts. Get it out on paper as often as you need too.
This can help to clear your mind a ton and empty your brain… and sometimes an empty brain feels good! ?
Add Positive to the Negative:
Sometimes just by stopping and thinking, saying or writing as many good things that are currently going on in your life can help to replace the negative thoughts and help with perspective and resetting your thoughts – Are there things that you are grateful for? What makes you happy? Sometime it’s the little things that matter most.
Find the Bright Spots:
What has helped you to feel better in the past? Was it good for your health and a positive thing in your life? Does meeting up with a solid group of friends help to make you feel better? Did talking to someone about what is on your mind help?
Think about what has really helped you to feel the way you want to feel in the past (and was good for you) and then do more of that.
Find what works and do more of that ?
Change Your View:
From changing the furniture around in your home to changing your routine or where you live, a fresh perspective changes the way we look at things and can be good for the mind.
As Wayne Dyer said:
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
~ Wayne Dyer
Avoid Perfection + Resistance:
Recognize that we aren’t supposed to always have cheery happy go lucky thoughts all day, every day. Accept some of your negative thoughts and let them pass.
Sometimes what we resist persists! Can you resist less, and try to flow more?
As an example -accept the thoughts that are flowing, accept the chatter and sometimes by doing that it will quiet on its own. Hurray for a quiet brain!
I hope that you are feeling inspired and empowered in regards to what YOU can do to spring clean your body this year. One little change here and there truly does add up over time and will create a snowball effect towards improving your health!
“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results”
